WE HAD HEARD ABOUT A PLACE WHICH WAS A RECENTLY DISCOVERED ECO-TOURISM RESORT, AND IS LOCATED AT THE VALLEY OF PANCHET HILL......IT IS ABOUT 35 KILOMETRES FROM ASANSOL AND 85 KILOMETRES FROM DURGAPUR....NAMED 'GARPANCHKOT' ....
WE HAD OUR BREAKFAST AND WENT OUT OF HOME BY 9:30 AM.......WE WENT BY OUR OWN ZEN ESTILO...WE HAD TO CROSS ASANSOL, ANDAL, RANIGANJ, DESERGARH, BARAKAR, BURNPUR AND ULTIMATELY REACHED OUR DESTINATION BY 11:15 AM......
I felt that it is wonderful place for a weekend hangout.
Situated at the foothill of Panchakot(panchet hill),in the north east corner of the Purulia District, close to the boundary with district Burdwan and JharKhand.
Hilltop offers picturesque and panoramic view of the command area of the Panchet dam on Damodar river and its reservior. Bird watching on Panchet dam is a treat to the eye. There are some resorts of WBFDC which are very good in service......

You will feel the beauty of the nature.......Before getting to garpanchkot, you can have a trip to panchet dam which is about 15kms away from Garpanchkot, and is the largest dam in West Bengal (4.7 kms long)... You will be able to feel the scenic beauty....Panchet is the area where damodar and mahish, the two rivers meet...and at one side of the river, lies the panchet hill like a green demon.....at winter the top of the hill sometimes get covered with fog (as we saw).......
And then take the trip to garpanchkot....travel through the silent forests at the valley where you can come across animals like langurs and wild-jackals....you will come across many tribal villages where you can understand the beauty of village-life.....tribal-dances are very common there......after travelling for about half an hour, take the route through the small village at one side of the road which leads to the ruins.......these ruins give a rich information about the culture and heritage during 1600 AD.....these ruins are mainly belongings of the Panchkot Dynasty, which existed during 15th to 17th century...THIS IS THE MAIN PLACE OF INTEREST HERE...you can also talk with the local people to get information...as we did...
WE HARDLY WANTED TO COME BACK AFTER FEELING THE INTENSR BEAUTY, BUT WE HAD TO.....DUE TO THE COMMON DAILY WORK......WE STARTED FROM THERE AT ABOUT 4PM AND AGAIN REACHED DURGAPUR WITHIN 6 PM....
SO....WEEKEND TRAVELLERS CAN HAVE A NICE TRIP HERE..... I WILL REMEMBER THIS TRIP LOOOONG.......
