INFORMATION :The National Institute of Technology, Durgapur (formerly Regional Engineering College, Durgapur), was established by an Act of Parliament in 1960 as one of the eight such colleges aimed to function as a pace setter for engineering education in the country and to foster national integration.It is a fully-funded premier Technological Institution of the Government of India and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors.
The Institute is a University which awards B.Tech., M.C.A., M.Sc., M.B.A.,M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees to students after their successful completion of the specified courses. The Institute imparts education in the disciplines of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering,Information Technology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Environmental science, Materials Science and Management Studies.
As decided by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the procedure for selection of candidates for admission to the Bachelor Degree Courses in Engineering/Technology in National Institute of Technology Durgapur and in other NITs is on the basis of State Rank/ All India Rank (AIR) of AIEEE conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and the same is executed through counselling by Central Counselling Board, AIEEE under guidance from MHRD, GOI as per schedule notified by CCB. In addition to the normal intake, a few seats are reserved for Foreign Students who are nominated by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India.

FACILITIES: The campus has facilities like playgrounds, medical unit, quarters for teachers and non-teaching staffs, hostels for students (more coming up), a lake, clubs, canteens, a library, activity centre, a well-equipped guest house, a school, a small shopping area and a multigym.....Moreover, High-speed internet can be accessed from the hostels and the quarters.

RICH IN BIODIVERSITY: If u are from outside and are bored of the hectic life, u can come here for a short visit and relaxxx......The campus is rich in greenery and provides home to a huge number of colorfun and rare birds.....There is a beautiful garden in front of the main institute building...
Monkeys and langurs can also be seen sometimes along with dogs, cats, cows, buffalos, pigs etc...And at night it is sure that you will hear the cries of foxes....and the voices of night birds like owls...bats can also be seen....There is a lake at one corner of the campus where ducks and swans can be seen....and at rainy season u can come across different kinds of snakes.......

LOCATION- NIT Durgapur is about 13 kms away from the Durgapur Railway Station, 1km away from City Centre and 1km away from the National Highway 2, which connects Durgapur with Asansol in the west and Kolkata in the east.....
STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES: Students perform various activities based on each and every sphere like sports, education, campussing, entertainment, art and music over the year.....This opportunity is mostly provided by the Students' Gymkhana.....The various activities includes Recstacy, CCA, LUG, Chayanika, Verve, Aarohan, NSS, Mukti, etc...
